A Glass of Milk
Once, a poor young boy was selling candy door-to-door.

The woman replied, ” You don’t need to pay. We don’t need money for kindness.”
女性は、「払う必要はないわ。親切にはお金は必要じゃないのよ。」と答えた。
Before he left, she said, “Be strong, young man, and you’ll have a great future.

The next day, a doctor came to her room.

He had an envelope in his hand.
彼は手に封筒をもっていた。
He gave it to her and said, ” Here’s your bill for the operation.”
彼はそれを彼女に渡して言った。「あなたへの請求書です。」
She was afraid to look inside.

彼女は中味を見るのが怖かった。
He smiled and said, ” Open it, please.”
彼は微笑んで「開けてください。」といった。
Inside there was a note.
中にメモが入っていた。
It said, ” Paid in full, with one glass of milk.”

そこには、「支払い済み(全部支払われています)、一杯のミルクで。」と書かれていた。
Then she looked up and recognized the boy in the doctor.
その時、彼女が顔を上げるとその医師が少年だと気づいた。
