A Mother’s lullaby.
A big old tree stands by a road near the city of Hiroshima.
広島市の近くのある道のそばに一本の大きな古木が立っている
Through the years, it has seen many things.
【現在完了 have(has) + 過去分詞 継続 過去に経験したことが現在を作っている】
長年にわたって、その木はたくさんのことを見てきた。
One summer night, the tree heard a lullaby.
ある夏の夜、その木に子守歌が聞こえてきた。
A mother was singing to her little girl under the tree.
一人の母がその木の下で幼い女の子に歌ってきかせいていた。
They look happy, and the song sounded sweet.
彼らは楽しそうで、歌は美しく聞こえた。
But the tree remembered something sad.
だが、その木はある悲しい出来事を思いだした。
” Yes. It was eighty years ago, I heard a lullaby that night, too.”
「そう。私はあの夜も子守歌を聞いた。」
On the morning of that day, a big bomb fell on the city of Hiroshima.
その日の朝、大きな爆弾が広島の街に落ちた。
Many people lost their lives and many others were injured.
【受動態 be動詞+過去分詞～される My class like the song.→The song is liked by my class.】
たくさんの人々が命を落とし、また多くが傷を負った。
They had burns all over their bodies.
彼らは全身に行けどを負った。
I was very sad when I saw those people.
【主文を修飾する副詞節】when
私が彼らを見たとき、とても悲しい思いをした。
It was a very hot day.
とても暑い日だった。
Some of the people fell down near me.
その人々の数人が私の近くに倒れた。
I said to them, ” Come and rest in my shade. You’ll be all right soon.”
【 come and 動詞の原形= Come to 動詞の原形 ～しに来なさい】
私は、彼らに言った。「私の木陰で休みに来なさい。そうすればすぐに良くなるよ」
Night came.
やってきた。
Some people were already dead.
人々は既に亡くなっていた。
I heard a weak voice.
私は弱った声が聞こえた。
It was a lullaby.
子守歌だった。
A young girl was singing to a little boy.
幼い女の子が小さな男の子に歌って聞かせていた。
“Mommy! Mommy!” the boy said.
「おかあちゃん、おかあちゃん」と男の子は言った。
” Don’t cry, ” the girl said. ” Mommy is here.”
「泣かないでね、お母ちゃんはここにいるよ。」と少女は言った。
Then she began to sing again.

それから彼女はまた歌い始めた。
She was very week, but she tried to be a mother to the poor little boy.

She held him in her arms like a real mother.
hold ～ in her arms ～を両腕に抱える
彼女は本当の母親のように彼を両腕に抱えた。
” Mommy,” the boy was still crying.
「おかあちゃん、」男の子はまだ叫んでいた。
” Be a good boy, ” said the girl. ” You’ll be all right.”
良い子にしてね、と少女は言った。「元気になるからね。」
She hold the boy more tightly and began to sing again.

彼女はよりしっかりと男の子を抱いて、再び歌い始めた。
After a while, the boy stopped crying and quietly died.
after a while しばらくして

しばらくして、男の子は泣き止み、静かに亡くなった。
But the little girl did not stop singing.

It was a sad lullaby.
悲しい子守歌だった。
The girl’s voice became weaker and weaker.

Morning came and the sun rose, but the girl never moved again.
朝がやってきて太陽が昇ったが、少女は二度と動くことはなかった。

A world without Nuclear Weapons
On May, 27, 2016, a man visited Hiroshima and a give a speech at the city’s Peace Memorial Park.
He began, ” Seventy-one years ago, on a bright, cloudless morning, death fell from the sky and the world was changed.
The man’s name is Barack Obama.
He became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima.
It meant a lot to the city, to Japan, and to the world.
Before the speech, Obama visited the museum there.
In its guest book, he left these words:
We have the agony of war. Let us now find the courage, together, to spread peace, and purse a world without nuclear weapons.
He also left two paper cranes there. They were folded by Obama himself.
Obama closed his speech by saying, ” The world was forever changed here.
But today, the children of this city will go through their day in peace.
what a precious thing that is!
It is worth protecting, and then extending to every child.

2016年の5月27日に、ひとりの男性が広島を訪れ、その都市の平和記念公園で演説をしました。彼はこう始めました。「71年前、快晴の雲一つない朝に死が空から舞い降り、そして世界は変わりました。」
その男性の名前は、バラク=オバマです。彼は広島を訪問した最初のアメリカ現職大統領です。そのことはその町にとって、日本にとって、そして世界にとって大変意味深いことでした。
演説の前に、オバマはそこの記念館(広島平和記念資料館Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum))を訪れました。その記念館の記名帳に、彼はこのような言葉を残しています。
私たちは戦争の激しい痛みを知りました。さあ、共に、勇気をだして、平和を広げ、核兵器のない世界を追い求めていきましょう。
彼はまた2羽の折り鶴をそこに残しました。それは、オバマ自身によって折られたものでした。
オバマは以下のような言葉で彼の演説を終えました。「世界はこの地で永遠に変わりました。しかし、今日、この町の子供たちは平和裡にかれらの一日を送るでしょう。そのことはなんと貴重なことでしょう。そのことは、護るに値することであり、そしてそれをすべての子供たちに広げていく価値のあることです。

- このオバマ大統領の平和記念式典での講演について、あなたが思うところを英語(1～２文)で書きなさい。
For the first time, the first sitting U.S president visited Hiroshima. Now we should do something to realize the world without nuclear weapons. - あなたは、この世界から戦争をなくすためにどんなことをしなければならないと考えますか。英語(2～3文)で答えなさい。There are some countries developing nuclear weapons. They have to have a meeting to stop developing them promptly.
